Whereas most conventional gold fountain pen nibs are made of 14K gold (58.5% purity) or 18K gold (75.0% purity), 21K gold boasts a higher purity at 87.5%. With higher purity, gold becomes more supple. At the same time, it becomes more difficult to craft because of its flexibility. We overcame this challenge with an original alloy composition and cutting-edge technology. Today, Sailor Pen is the only manufacturer in the world that produces 21K gold nibs.
